How to handle current shortages of three to five-year-old car and van stock will be the key subject of September’s member meeting of the Vehicle Remarketing Association (VRA).
Nick Press, finance and leasing development director at AutoTrader; Martin Cleaver, group trade disposal manager at Sytner; and Melissa Seckington, head of corporate sales at Wilsons Auctions, will look at how the remarketing sector is managing this crucial issue.
Philip Nothard, chair of the VRA, said: “Production difficulties around the pandemic mean there is a dramatic shortage of stock in this age range, which normally forms a crucial element of sales for retailers from franchise dealers to car supermarkets.
“We’ll be taking a look at the distortions in the market this is creating, how consumers view the situation, what retailers are doing to fill the gap, and more. It promises to be a fascinating and valuable session.”
The VRA meeting, taking place on Wednesday 24 September, is being held at the Derbyshire headquarters of Toyota Manufacturing in the UK.
It will also feature a presentation on the ramifications of the Supreme Court decision on car finance commission by VRA legal counsel, Jonathan Butler of Geldard’s, and an update on new and used car market trends by Rupert Pontin of Brego.
Philip said: “We seem to be living through a moment when there is important news in the motor industry almost every week, but the Supreme Court decision is potentially a very important moment, and we’ll be looking at its potential effects in detail. Its consequences could be felt throughout the remarketing sector for years to come.”
