Industrywide briefing on discretionary commission held by VRA and Geldards

An industrywide briefing on the issue of discretionary commission arrangements (DCAs) has been organised by the Vehicle Remarketing Association (VRA) in partnership with motor retail legal specialists Geldards.

To be held at the Milton Keynes Dons football ground on May 16, it is being hosted by Suzuki GB, and will feature Jonathan Kirk KC and Jonathan Goulding of Gough Square Chambers.

Jonathan Kirk is ranked as the star individual silk for consumer law by Chambers and Partners and a Band One KC by the Legal 500, while Jonathan Goulding is similarly also ranked as a leading junior.

Normally, VRA meetings are open only to the organisation’s members but in recognition of the importance of the subject, the full capacity of the venue is being opened up free to motor industry professionals.

VRA chair Philip Nothard said: “Especially since the involvement of Martin Lewis, the subject of DCAs has been a preoccupation for many parts of motor retail, from dealers to finance providers, and this event is designed to provide both expert guidance and an open platform for discussion.”

The involvement of Gough Street Chambers has been arranged by Jonathan Butler, the VRA’s legal counsel, who added: “The quality of legal guidance here will be of the very highest quality and we are sure that delegates will receive an excellent briefing in the subject, ultimately having a much better idea where they stand.”

Suzuki GB are hosting the event and will be both presenting details on their remarketing strategy and the new Swift, which is just starting to arrive in the UK.

Dale Wyatt, director, automotive at Suzuki GB, said: “We’re very pleased to be able to support this important discussion for the motor industry while having the opportunity to brief the audience about the latest exciting developments here at Suzuki.”
