Major speakers on Brexit and current state of car market announced for VRA AGM

Two major speakers have been announced for the Annual General Meeting of the Vehicle Remarketing Agency, taking place at BCA Birmingham on 10th July.

David Bailey is professor of business economics at the Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham and a ‘UK in a Changing Europe’ senior fellow. He is also the author of the book, “Keeping the Wheels on the Road. UK Auto after Brexit,” and will speak on how Brexit is affecting the motor industry, as well as looking at the likely implications of a variety of future scenarios.

Later, Mike Jones, chairman of automotive business specialist ASE Global, will examine the state of the new and used car and van markets so far in 2019, and look at how they are set to develop over the remainder of the year and into 2020.

VRA chair Sam Watkins said: “AGMs can often be quite dry and unexciting affairs that are dominated by procedural matters and we decided that this year, we would try and add a new dimension by including sessions from some very high-quality speakers.

“We are very, very pleased to have both Dave and Mike on board for the event. The areas on which they are experts are of direct and crucial relevance to VRA members, and we are sure that they will prompt interesting and lively debate.”

The VRA was established in 2010 by senior executives from companies involved in all aspects of remarketing used cars which between them handle, sell, inspect, transport or manage more than 1.5 million used vehicles every year.

Sam added: “We have got a lot of good news to talk about at this year’s AGM. Membership is rising, attendance at our events is also increasing and, as an organisation, our profile is much higher than in recent years. I’m very much looking forward to the event.”
